The Liliane Origin Story
The story of Liliane Victoire Blondeel is one of survivorship, adventure and love.
She was a French-speaking beauty born in the 1920s in Ostende, Belgium. She was the middle child of five, born to a jeweller and his bride.
Liliane was a happy gal living through the impossible demands of war, challenged to endure without food or heat, all the while hiding her father and brother from the Germans. Their dream as a family was to simply survive the trauma of war and, survive they did.
She caught the attention of a baker’s son in the 1950s. He was a handsome man with piercing blue eyes and after a short courtship, they married. She gave birth to her precious daughter, and then her beloved son, caring for them both dearly.
In the 1960s their happy little family boarded the ship to a better life. Life in Canada. They had very little, worked hard and made many sacrifices – she was a factory worker, he was a plumber. The children attended school and would speak English in the home so that their parents could learn the language.
She enjoyed simple things, like country music or getting dressed up in heels just to go for a walk. She repaired clocks and watches in the evenings for extra money, sewed clothes for the children, and would take Sunday Best pictures after church. Sometimes for a treat, she would toss a few coins out the factory window down to the children so they could buy popsicles at the corner store.
Liliane was doting and nurturing in stature, touted as the mother of mothers. An unkind word was never spoken, a cross word never left her lips. She was kind and gentle and created a memorable, peaceful home.
Liliane - a symbol of innocence, purity, and beauty. The Liliane is inspired by this beautiful soul. Its warmth and inviting spirit reflect the wonderful woman to whom we pay homage.
